Have You Lost Your Buttons, Apple Mary?

This series of small found object assemblages was made using an old illustrated book about a character named Apple Mary and the goings on of her every day life. It was part of a series of books from the 1930-40s. The found objects are those that reminded me of the everyday stories in the book and helped tell the stories visually. There are lines snipped from the book as well. The color block configuration is a subtle nod to the artist Mondrian. These unique pieces are hung on a steel wire, but have a wide enough base to set on a shelf. A small nail is provided for hanging. Series of 50?The Apple Mary series was completed in 2012 and was originally 56 pieces strong, today are a little more than 20 that remain! They look great hung together in groupings too!
